Piano Orchestra South Wales
Piano Orchestra South Wales was founded in 2023 and is the only ensemble of its kind in the world. This groundbreaking orchestra is made up entirely of pianos, unlocking a remarkable versatility that allows us to perform everything from classical masterpieces to rock anthems.
For many years, we felt that pianists were missing out on the collaborative experiences enjoyed by other musicians. Piano is traditionally a solitary instrument, with only a small number of elite players ever given the chance to perform with an orchestra. An orchestra made up solely of pianos was once unimaginable — but through the use of digital stage pianos and keyboards, we can now recreate the full sound and colour of an orchestra, without limitation.
Our pianists experience the joy of making music together, forming friendships, and discovering a renewed sense of purpose in their musical journey. Weekly rehearsals are not only a space to develop technical and ensemble skills, but also a vibrant social environment where like-minded musicians connect, collaborate, and build a strong sense of camaraderie.
Since its inception, the Orchestra has toured internationally, performing in Paris at the iconic Église de la Madeleine, and appearing at numerous venues across South Wales. We are now thrilled to bring our distinctive sound and infectious energy to Edinburgh as part of our latest performance tour.
